BAIC stands for Bay Area Internet Connection. The joke over the years was that it stood for “Boy Am I Confused“. It was a dream child of Wayne’s to start a web hosting company back in the 1990′s, and CJ to later join him and incorporate it with IT Consulting. Hence, BAIC and Digital Spork were born!
About Us
IT Consulting Since 1990
CJ began his career with Bank of America in the early 1990s as a corporate officer for the Retirement Products Division in Oakland, California. He was unique in that he had two positions: registered stock broker with BA Investment Services and the CBOE (both series 7 and series 65 licensed), and computer trainer for all new hires and temporary personnel in the division. This came after he assisted in the implementation and testing of a $14 million call center for BA Investments/Retirement Products Service Center. His first computer was the IBM 8088xt.
Wayne began computer programming in seventh grade. His abilities were recognized in college, and his lecturers encouraged him to learn UNIX. He worked in the open source community, supporting and testing numerous *nix operating systems like Linux and FreeBSD. This experience led to a career in systems administration, including work with Internet Service Providers, as well as several years with ATT, where he provided Enterprise Class managed services to high-profile enterprises, primarily in security. After returning to Leflore County, he decided to provide his skills to the area’s small and medium-sized enterprises. He has worked with almost every form of business, from home-based ecommerce to national banks.
Wayne and CJ met and worked together in the late 90′s for a local ISP called ValueNet in Walnut Creek, CA. It was at this mom and pop organization that the two learned how to succeed in an Information Technology Saturated market. Make service priority one!
The owners encouraged personalized service with everyone from sales to billing, to technical support and to the system administrators themselves. The company grew from a 3 person operation to a staff of over 20 with clients all over the state of California.
We continue to follow the same custom now. And it is working!
When CJ joined BAIC in the late 1990s, they moved to a small office, added DNS servers, and took off.
As the company expanded, CJ took on more web development, IT, and network security projects. Wayne has recently moved into a more consultative role with the organization.
Fast forward to present, CJ and his family have relocated to Maine, and he now runs the California-based company from the great north woods!
The web hosting division is currently known as Digital Spork Hosting, however it is still owned and controlled by BAIC.
BAIC’s reputation has spread beyond Maine, and we now serve enterprises on the East Coast as well as clients in Europe, Australia, and parts Asia.
